My philosophies
of teaching:
- Suzuki:
Recommended for brand new beginners and the very young learner. This
philosophy encompasses the love involved when learning the joy of music
through a nurturing environment. The tools of CD’s or tapes for listening
are as important as playing the flute. Using the strengths of parental
involvement in a positive setting, learning in small steps, repetition,
and learning a common set of music will benefit the child. They will
learn to be sensitive, to have high values, to be confident and respect
the process of learning music.
“Tone has a living
soul without form” - Shinichi Suzuki
- Traditional:
The “process” of learning to listen and to read music while playing
the flute is really the most important part of teaching for me. *I want
the student to learn how to play the flute and be good at playing so
they can share the joy of music, be creative, build self esteem and
a positive self image as a musician, and belong to a valuable community
with other musicians. *I prefer to think of the student as my partner
in the lesson, and will customize lessons to each student’s needs.
“If music be the food of love, play on” - William Shakespeare
